A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Advanced Analytics and Data Science Team as a Data Scientist. The Data Scientist vacancy is a great opportunity for someone looking to start their career within data science and analytics, we have a large team all with a variety of backgrounds, this position offers the opportunity to learn and develop skills in multiple different sectors of data analysis.

You will undertake analysis and develop Machine Learning models to help different teams within the business answer interesting questions such as:

  • How can we improve our customer acquisition and retention?
  • How can we improve customer journeys (digital and non-digital)?
  • How are dynamic events and trends such as Covid and Climate Change impacting risks?
  • What makes someone a risky driver?
  • How can we help our claims department handle claims more efficiently?
  • How can we identify potentially fraudulent claims?

Who we’re looking for

This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated individual, who is early in their data science and analytics career, or looking to get started. In particular, we are looking for:

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manipulate and interpret data and make recommendations
  • Highly numerate, with a Degree, Masters or PhD in a Mathematical, Scientific, or Computational field
  • Understanding and experience of applying Supervised and Unsupervised Machine Learning techniques (e.g. linear regression, random forest, gradient boosting machines, clustering, anomaly detection)
  • Naturally curious with a demonstrable willingness to learn
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and able to simplify and communicate complex technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders in the business
  • Ability to manage priorities when working on multiple projects

Technical Skills – Essential

  • SQL
  • Python programming language
  • Key Python data science and ML libraries (e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Sci-kit-Learn)
  • Excel (pivot tables, lookups etc)

Technical Skills - Desirable

  • Databricks
  • Apache Spark
  • Production / MLOps
  • Deep Learning (TensorFlow / Keras / Pytorch)
  • Natural Language Processing knowledge / experience
  • Computer Vision knowledge / experience
